Your letters are secret. Read each other through the letters on the strip, not words.
One letter each
Add one at a time to either end of the strip. The longer the word, the bigger the score.
Five hearts
Stuck? Pass. Go astray and the strip falls apart. Finish a word to win a heart back.
How to play Letter by Letter
- Take turns adding one of your letters to the front or the back of the strip. You can't see each other's letters.
- When the strip spells a word, tap Bank word to score. Longer words score more, and a word that can't grow any longer banks itself.
- Add a letter no word continues with and the strip falls apart, costing a heart. Stuck? Passing costs a heart and gives you fresh letters. Two passes in a row clear the strip for a fresh start.
- The game ends when all five hearts or the letters run out. Every word you finish gives a heart back.
Questions before you start
How do you score in Letter by Letter?
Take turns adding one letter to the front or the back of a shared strip. When it spells a word you bank it, and longer words score more: ten points times the length squared.
What happens if we get stuck?
You can pass, which costs one of your five hearts and swaps your letters. A letter that no word continues with breaks the strip and also costs a heart. Every word you finish wins a heart back.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Games start right in your web browser. Just open the same address on a phone, tablet or PC.
Can I try a game on my own?
Every game has Try solo. A bot plays with you, so you can practice while you wait for your partner.
How do we play together?
Each of you opens DOOLPOP on your own device. Create a party on the game's page and send your partner the invite link or code.
